STEM

Have you heard about STEM?
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These areas are becoming an increasing focus in education as jobs need these skills more and more. (For more information check out Ed.org/stem.)
To encourage student interest in STEM fields, we spent most of today doing STEM tasks. I will post each task we preformed and the pictures of the kids working on them. Enjoy!

Restart!

It has been a very long time since I posted! I am going to try to get back into the groove again. I am declaring a restart to the blog!

Personification Poems

Coats Name is Rob by Harrison
I keep you warm.
I feel sad when you hang me up.
I feel happy when you wear me.

I would tell my owner I love him.

Shoe by Gavin
I am a shoe.
This what I do, lay down.
I feel sad when my sisters are mad.

I would tell my owner to tell my mom or dad when someone is mad at my friends.

Car by Gage
I am a car.
I drive people.
I feel sad when you leave me at home.
I feel happy when you use me.
I would like to change my driving time.
I want to get driven a lot.

I am a light.
This is what I do, I waste electricity.
I feel sad when you turn me on.
I feel happy when you turn me off.

Macroinverebrates

If your student hasn't started telling you about macro-invertebrates please ask them to explain what they are to you. We have been learning about pollution sensitive, somewhat pollution sensitive and pollution tolerant macro-invertebrates and what they mean to water quality. This is in preparation for out Down By the Riverside fieldtrip on May 31!

Charter Survey

We received 29 survey results - thank you to the parents who have filled those out.  The Charter Board reviewed the results Monday at the meeting but would like additional input before making decisions for next year.

If you have not filled out a survey could you please take 5 minutes and click the following link.  The comments are the most helpful - there were several already made that gave excellent input to help guide decisions for next year.

Thank you for your input!
